The Concept of Social Proof And Why It Is Important For Your Business

The concept of social proof

Social proof is a concept, when many of us rely very much on the feedback and reviews of other people to determine what is good or bad in a certain situation. While purchasing a product or service, a lot of things exist that need to be taken into consideration, and of course, social proof is one of them. Researches demonstrate that nearly 75% of customers read some reviews, feedback about the specific product before buying it.

For example, when was the last time you bought electronics, like TV, phone, camera without reading reviews and feedback about them? It was probably long time ago. Reviews give you confidence that you act correctly. In general, people trust reviews and feedback more than product descriptions because they believe more in what other customers say, rather than what the company says about its product.

So, social proof is very important for your business whether you are B2B or B2C. It can also have a bad impact on your business, because negative social proof is also possible.

Implementing social proof for your business

It depends a lot which type of business you own and in which area you are specialized, however there are some ways that you can use no matter what kind of product you sell. For instance, you can use stars for the customers to evaluate your product, you can ask for feedback or you can use the comment function to know your customers’ opinions.

Use Social Media to boost your social proof

The rise of social media increased social proof’s importance, because now, it’s much easier to get reviews from people than it was before. So, here are 3 social networks that can help you in increasing your social proof.

Facebook

A lot of ways exist to develop this concept with Facebook. For example one of the most effective ways is to use the ‘like box’. You can use this in your website to show your customers how many people like your business and how they are engaged with your Facebook page.

Small business owners can also get advantage of customer reviews directly on their Facebook page, so every time when somebody leaves you a review it becomes publicly available. Lots of 5 stars is a another great social proof for somebody interested in your products or services.

Twitter

It’s too easy to use Twitter for social proof. People follow you just because you have interesting and relevant information for them and because you are followed by many people.

No one will follow a page, if this page doesn't have at least a few followers. So, by sharing interesting content your following will increase and will ensure your great social proof.

Foursquare

Over 50 million people use Foursquare worldwide and there are more than 6 billion check-ins there so far. These people not only check in on Foursquare but also share their experience, write reviews and feedback about a particular place. So if you have a business of restaurant, bar, club or something like it, Foursquare is the best way for you to boost your social proof by your customer feedback.
